We adopted Abbott at the Sonoma County Humane Society December 1995. Abbott was picked up on the streets of Cotati, CA as a young pup with his 6 siblings (3 black & 3 liver) during the very cold and wet December of 1995. As far as we or anyone could tell Abbott was a German Wirehair Pointer and Labrador Retriever cross. Although, Silvia Hammarstrom of Skansen Schnauzers once stopped to admire him at a show in Petaluma he went to with Oli, maybe there was a bit of Giant Schnauzer in him as well.
Abbott was a fabulous hunter with a fantastic nose! Pigs ears were his favorite thing, we could NEVER run out or he would get mad (no joke!).
Abbott had a foot fetish, that's putting it midly!
He had a talent for grabbing someones shoe just right and ripping it off of their foot!
Didn't matter what type of shoe either, keds were taken off just as easily as loafers!
He never harmed the shoe, but sometimes ankles got twisted accidently.
He was a lovable 114 pound hunting and playing machine taken too early by melanoma.
Abbott taught Oli how to be a bird dog, soft mouth and everything. As such, Oli is the only Siberian Husky we know of who has succesfully retrieved a quail without trying to eat it! Abbott was a very patient teacher who didn't hesitate to 'whack' Oli with a paw when he was not paying attention.
Abbott is greatly missed...
